David Martyn Jones
Born in Pontypool in 1964, David Martyn Jones was educated at London College of Music where he studied piano with Richard Deering, organ with Margaret Phillips and conducting, and University College of Wales Aberystwyth. Further studies included piano with the late Geoffrey Buckley and Voice with Jeanette Massocchi.
Martyn was appointed assistant conductor of Torfaen Choral Society in 2001, and has conducted the choir in performances of Schubert’s Mass in G, Arwel Hughes’ Gweddi, Stainer’s Crucifixion, selections from Brahms’ Liebeslieder and Handel’s Messiah. He has also assisted in preparation of the choir for performances of Creation and The Seasons by Haydn, Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez, Fauré Requiem and Rutter Requiem. In addition he has conducted many smaller works with the choir including the world première of his own “Ding Dong Merrily on High” a challenging new setting of the famous Christmas carol for SATB a capella..
Martyn is Director of Music at St Michaels Church, Llantarnam, Cwmbran, Accompanist of Newport Philharmonic Choir and Musical Director of the popular concert group “Judy and Friends”. He teaches piano and theory of music.
Jeanette Massocchi-Musical Director
Of Italian/Welsh parentage, Jeanette Massocchi was educated in Llandovery and later studied singing and piano accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music in London, during which time she was chosen as soloist with The National Youth Orchestra of Wales
Freelance work followed, performing in both skills with opera companies,choral societies, radio and television. Her work abroad has taken her to Canada, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Jordan. She was a senior lecturer at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and was accompanist for the Welsh National Opera Male Choir, the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. She currently teaches part- time at Cardiff University.
Jeanette enjoys great success as a singing teacher and vocal coach and is in constant demand as an accompanist and adjudicator. She leads a number of voice workshops and courses for Choral Societies. In 1993 she was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for her services to music.

Mary Morris.
Accompanist
Mary has accompanied Torfaen Choral Society for five years. From, the early 1960's she was accompanist to Barry Choral Society and went on to accompany several operatic societies. She is Musical Director of Monmouth Ladies' Choir and plays for Monmouthshire County Children's Choir whilst also being available to accompany solo singers.
